There is already some speculation about the upcoming Mufasa film, with fans questioning whether Mufasa is really the right story to be telling.

The official synopsis is “Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored.” Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner are set to reprise their roles as Pumba and Timon respectively in the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King. He continued, “There’s a lot of room to run if we can find the stories”. On the possibility of a franchise, Bailey said in a New York Times interview that The Lion King could turn into “a big, epic saga”. The recently released The Little Mermaid made headlines for casting Halle Bailey in the role of the originally red-headed Ariel, and there is also a Snow White remake in the works, with Latina actress Rachel Zegler in the ‘skin as white as snow’ main role.
The live-action remakes are also known for their redefinition of typical gender and racial stereotypes. Bailey has been a key driver of the influx of Disney live-action remakes during his 13 year tenure as president including the live-action hits Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.
